CyberSmart fosters 21st century skills to increase student engagement and prepare students to achieve in today's digital society (CyberSmart.org, 2011).

CyberSmart provides a free curriculum that has 65 cyber safety lesson plans and student activity sheets. These lesson plans have been aligned with the National Educational Technology Standards (NETS•T). CyberSmart's curriculum is recognized as the student's curriculum for 21 Century skills and as an expert in cybersafety. CyberSmart's curriculum is divided into five units in which they teach an important facet of Internet use.

The five units are:

  • Cyber Bullying,
  • Digital Citizenship; and,
What is NetSmartz?
NetSmartz is a free and informative website that offers free, multimedia Internet safety presentations.
  • Do not share personal information such as phone number, address, school, social security number, passwords or any other private information about yourself.
  • Always delete unknown e-mails they might contain viruses.
  • Don't respond to any messages that make you feel uncomfortable. Make sure to report it to an adult or authorities.
  • Be careful what you write on the Web it is not completely private.
  • If you come across inappropriate info on accident or feel uncomfortable in a social networking site, ALWAYS log-off immediately.

The iPad Interactive Games page contains different applications that focuses on Internet safety. These apps can be downloaded and accessed using mobile devices. It is anytime, anywhere learning with Internet safety!

Used by millions of students globally, the CyberSmart Student Curriculum was the very first-of-its kind standards-based online safety and digital literacy program. Today we believe that these skills should not be part of a stand-alone program in schools. Just as the use of ICT has moved out of the computer lab into the classroom, digital literacy skills need to be integrated and embedded within the context of daily classroom instruction. That’s why our work in digital literacy supports the learning goals of the core curriculum subjects.
